Whitewright history recall 1878 town growth and records
The Reflector recounts Whitewright’s origin with the MKT Railway in 1878, naming founders Batsell and Reeves, early businesses, the first mill and bank, churches, schools, and key fires. It notes civic development, population around 2000 by 1894, and later government by a city commission with Mayor Echols and commissioners Hasty and Badgett, plus plans for a swimming pool.
