Late Blight Warning Spurs Protective Sprays Across Crops
Late blight threatens potatoes and tomatoes with cool wet conditions favored for spread. Ohio reports the disease in the southern region, with rapid northward potential. Experts advise covering foliage with Bordeaux or fixed copper fungicides and dithiocarbamates, spraying intervals every 7 to 10 days, and timing for potatoes from six inches tall onward and tomatoes from mid July to mid September to prevent fruit loss. Local grower J. D. Wilson emphasizes control challenges once established and the need for timely protection.
