Batavia Knothole Team Completes Undefeated Season

The Batavia B knothole team finished 18–0 in a county league, 255 runs to 59, including midseason no hitters by Gerald Woods. They beat the county All-Stars 8–6 at Bethel and prepare for a Cincinnati tournament. Clarene Dunn, 13, won Ohio State Safety Poster Contest honors with a “Fishing For Safety” poster.

Board Votes to Oust Moscow Principal

R. W. Spence was removed as Moscow school principal by five board members with one vote in his favor and one absence. He plans an appeal after hearings and a pending defense. Spence served two years, having signed a three year contract that would end in two years.

Youth Bound Over To Grand Jury

Clayton Briggs twenty of Youngstown Ohio bound over to Clermont County Grand Jury on criminally attacking a thirteen year old Batavia girl. Briggs returned from Fort Knox Kentucky where he was stationed Justice of the Peace A C Munden heard the case Friday night the girl's mother signed the warrant for arrest.

N W Engine Explodes Near Williamsburg killing two crewmen

An N and W locomotive exploded near Williamsburg on Wednesday August 16 killing engineer Carl Clark 58 and fireman R E Aldridge 43 of Portsmouth Ohio. Head Brakeman Paul Keyes 32 survived after being thrown from the cupola. Loss pegged over 200000. cause not released.

Eight Countians Are Casualties In Korea War

A total of eight Clermont Countians have been listed as casualties in the Korean War by the Defense Department. Bethel is hardest hit with three cases as Elmer Brandenburg’s son Pfc. Ralph Brandenburg is missing since August 12 and Lester Bush was reported missing last week. Pvt. Carlo Riggs Jr. of Bethel was injured in action. Also listed are missing Pfc. John Paytes of Loveland and Pvt. Edward J. Paytes of Marathon, Corp. Ernest L. Cole of Loveland. injured Pvt. Russell Bruin of New Richmond and Howard Hamilton of Olive Branch.

Milford School Set to Open Tuesday After Renovations

Milford School will open Tuesday morning with Superintendent Roy E. Holmes announcing the start. Teaching staff should be in place this week, while upgrades continue on the new auditorium and remodeling that will add nine classrooms to the facility.

Peace Officers Meet to Discuss Civil Actions and Mock Trial

The Clermont Peace Officers Association holds its next meeting in the Court House Conference Room at 8 p m on September 6. Attorneys James Walker and Harold Nichols will lead a discussion on the association's role in civil actions. Details of a mock trial planned for October will be discussed.

Batavia Resident Dies At Home

William Bishop died suddenly Sunday evening at his Batavia home on Second Street. He leaves wife Ester, mother Mrs. Cora, a brother Dr. Robert Bishop of Youngstown, Ohio, and two sisters Mrs. James McTamany of Louisville and Mrs. Catherine Lail of Cincinnati. Services were held Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Mark officiating.

Second race track to open in Clermont County

Clermont County will have two stock car tracks after next Monday. Roger Sellers plans a new track opening Labor Day Sept 4 near Amelia. The Southern Ohio Stock Car Association will move from Glen Este Race Bowl to the new venue with 46 members competing. Races set at 8:30 p.m. Fridays and 1 p.m. Sundays after opening, with ongoing events at Glen Este Bowl and negotiations with another association for drivers.
