Jenkins to Leave Batavia United Brethren Church Reveals

The Rev J E Jenkins will deliver a farewell sermon this Sunday at Batavia United Brethren Church before moving to a new pastorate in Xenia Ohio. He has guided local youth groups 4 H and Clermont County religious groups and will depart after ten years of service to the Batavia community.

Ohio Gratitude Train Box Car Exhibit To Visit Batavia

The Ohio French Gratitude Box Car will be shown in Batavia noon to 10 p m on Sept 18 at Main and Third Streets. Mayor Paschal and Police Chief Ed Colonel approved the exhibit. The car travels Ohio as part of 49 French cars sent to honor American aid in wars and postwar relief.

Glen Este Bowl to Feature Midget Racers on Program

The Glen Este Race Bowl will host a split program featuring midget racing and stock car spins tomorrow evening. Het Schlusser, a 22 year veteran midget racer, will appear at the track. Verna Bender and Helen Kelly won top places in Sundays Powder Puff Derby with Kitty Weil second and trophy races won by Herb Rumpke of Mt. Carmel.

Two Countians Stricken by Polio in Clermont County

Two Clermont Countians are victims of infantile paralysis. Carl Louis Anter, 37, of New Richmond, is paralyzed from the hips down and hospitalized in Cincinnati. Pamela Kathleen Ankrom, three, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Ankrom near Loveland, is also ill. County authorities quarantine Anter’s family to curb spread.

920th Flower Show To Be Held Friday At Masonic Hall

Milford Garden Club presents its 20th annual show from 3 to 9 p m Friday Sept 8 at Masonic Hall Water Street. Kilgore Begins Nursing Program In Cincinnati

Miss Barbara J. Kilgore of Batavia starts a three year course at Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati on August 29. She is a 1950 Batavia High School graduate and won Clermont County first place in the American Legion essay contest. Orientation Week activities precede the Fall term beginning September 5.

Howard Doss Sentenced in Armed Robbery Case in Clermont County

Howard Doss, 28, pled guilty to armed robbery in Clermont County Common Pleas Court and was sentenced by Judge Harry Britton to one to 25 years in the Ohio State Penitentiary. A rape charge against Doss remains pending. The case stemmed from a June incident involving a taxi driver.

Batavia to Install Parking Meters and Road Upgrades

Batavia plans new Alfco-Twin parking meters to operate within ten days under Richard Palmer of International Parking Meter Co. The village receives state help painting center lines, snow removal, and bridge cost estimates on Routes 222-132. A 1942-43 parallel parking proposal is cited as a solution to reduce accidents, with 23 foot stalls and driver testing standards.

Dayton Man Fined By A C Mundew

Ernest T. Edwards of Dayton Ohio was arrested early Sunday by Sheriff Clyde B Dericks on drunkenness and disorderly conduct. He was fined 300 dollars plus costs by Justice of the Peace A C Mundew Batavia with 200 dollars suspended. The Sheriff said Edwards was the worst prisoner he had ever confined to the county jail.

Rev. William Rountree Cleared On Morals Charge

The Rev. William Rountree 38 of Route 1 Coraddale was found not guilty by Clermont County Common Pleas Court jurors after about ninety minutes of deliberation. The pastor of the Church of God near Goshen faced a morals charge involving two brothers aged two and twelve.

County Study Forecasts 2848 More Elementary Enrollments by 1958

The Ohio Citizens Commission projects 2848 additional children in Clermont County elementary schools by 1958 and total enrollment reaching 12844 by 1964, a 66.5 percent rise since 1949. The survey informs local groups and schools for future planning and notes a 108 percent increase in births from 1937 to 1949.
