County votes to buy former Green Acres orphanage site
Lorain County commissioners approved purchasing remaining ownership rights in the Green Acres property in Oberlin for 1000. The decision sets up a probate court review to determine permissible uses beyond its original orphanage purpose. County officials discuss a community center, health district office, and boys and girls club options while avoiding political posturing. The case traces to Minerva Powers who deeded the land in 1898 and to a 1999 lawsuit by another heir.
