Nordson to cut staff under Action 2000 plan
Nordson will reduce its global workforce by about 5 percent as part of the two year Action 2000 plan unveiled in October. The timetable aims for most cuts by June 30, with a mix of acquisitions, e commerce, job eliminations, and cost cuts. The firm employs about 4,200 worldwide, including over 1,000 in Amherst Elyria and its Westlake headquarters. In 1998 an enhanced retirement option saw 90 of 136 eligible employees take the offer.

Sewer Deal With Lorain Stalled Since 1997
Lorain County built a 3.5 million sewer line in Amherst Township in 1997 under a verbal tie in with Lorain to swap service. The line along Route 58 to Middle Ridge Road has been unused. Carney outlines seven options including a Lorain option. Foltin says no formal counteroffers were made and demands no risk to residents. Carney will present findings to the county on January 20 to resolve the stranded sewer dilemma.

Water flood prompts street closures and boil advisory
A water surge flooded Ninth Street several feet deep, causing road closures and diverted traffic. Fire and police worked to manage the scene while motorists were able to exit vehicles safely. Some nearby streets reported lower water levels and a citywide boil-water advisory was issued for residents between West 65th Street and East 30th Street to Denison Avenue.
