Alliance Area Irrigation Booms With 76 Wells in County
A nine year survey by the Department of Interior notes Box Butte county has 76 irrigation wells, with over 7000 acre feet drawn annually. The report credits the Times-Herald for promoting wells and controlled watering. By June 1946 more than 9000 acres were irrigated, 65 of the wells drilled since 1936. Groundwater and rainfall recharge suggest irrigation will grow as farmers shift from dryland farming.

Hopper Bait Shortage Stops Delay, Local Action Speeds Delivery
The warehouse blamed lack of delivery equipment for a week delay in restocking bait and bran. A local truck sped up the process, shortening a 23,000 pound freight move under 100 miles to about a week. County residents acted to ensure supplies at season start and again when stocks ran out, underscoring community effort. A separate ad notes a smart new handbag selection at The Gift Shop Jewelers for fall outfits.
