The Scottsbluff Lions Club will plant hardwood tree seeds on November 5 with help from Lions clubs from several towns. Last year they planted over 50 bushels of black walnuts and 10 bushels of acorns along the North Platte river, extending this year from Lingle Wyoming to Bridgeport. During August Nebraskans invested 8 nine million nine thousand in U S Savings Bonds per Leland R Hall state director of the Treasury U S Savings Bonds Division. August Temperatures Lead Nebraska Heat Record
The August report from the U S Department of Commerce Weather Bureau Center at Lincoln shows temperatures were the hottest on record for eastern Nebraska and, excluding 1937, the hottest August statewide. Average temp near 75.1 or 0.5 shy of 1937, rainfall low at 0.73 inch, Nenzel again the driest with trace, Koshopah 3.50 inches the heaviest. A warm month with marked changes in early September.
