Alexander Majors and the Freeing Freight Frontier
Capstone Nebraska history recounts Alexander Majors a Kentuckian who began freighting from Westport Missouri to Santa Fe in 1847. His firm rose to 100 wagons and 1 000 oxen with 120 men by 1854 before partnerships and war demands, losses in Utah and nonpayment doomed the venture. Majors died in 1900 in Denver after a life of frontier enterprise and hardship.

Oil exploration decline forecast for Nebraska in late 1960s
The Oil and Gas Journal predicts 161 wells drilled in Nebraska in the last six months of the year, bringing a projected annual total to 356. Through June, 195 wells had been drilled with 12 wildcat discoveries and 132 dry holes, marking the smallest yearly total since 1961 as production also declines. Secondary recovery projects help sustain output though the overall trend remains down. Don’t overcrowd the saucepan or deep skillet when cooking fresh fruit in a sugar syrup. Use a perforated spoon to remove fruit.
