Kiwanis club members were taken on a Monday night tour of the Fred Braun dairy farm on Bemis Road to see a model dairy operation. The previous week they visited Hoover Ball and Bearing on State Road for a guided plant tour.
The Ann Arbor Friendship Club sponsored by the city recreation department will host a potluck and card party starting at 6 30 p m Friday at Pattengill School. Guests should bring table service and a dish to pass. donations are 50 cents per person. All unmarried persons ages 39 to 64 are invited. Mrs Donald Wiedman is a patient at St Joseph Mercy Hospital for medical treatment and observation.
The Champion Troopers 4-H club held a July picnic at the Max Ross home with 25 members attending. The County Show discussed banners displays and dairy cow requirements. Next meeting at David Haeussler’s on July 30 at 7 p.m. The Happy Hands 4-H club met with 17 members. meeting led by Sharon Burkhardt with Karen Luckhardt leading pledges. Next meeting July 9 at the Luckhardts. club dinner at 12 30 p.m. followed by a business meeting and swimming.
Washtenaw county 4 H members will hold their annual Share the Fun Festival at Saline High School auditorium Tuesday July 16 at 8 p m. The theme is The Wonderland. About 47 members will participate in instrumental vocal dance pantomimes acrobatics. Two group acts and two individuals will advance to the district festival at Ann Arbor High School auditorium August 12. Public invited. No admission charge.
Local celebration honors the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Westphal of Kalamazoo. Hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fritz and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Winkle at Winkles residence on West Henry Street. Over 100 guests from Monroe Muskegon Battle Creek Jackson Howell Chelsea Ann Arbor and Saline attended. Willow Run airport history noted with University of Michigan establishing its first commercial airport in 1947.
A Michigan Farm Bureau youth event showcased salary by field with statistics showing top pay in statistics related roles and engineering. Post and Kellogg executives urged cooperative attitude and strong scholastic records while stressing personal philosophy and interest as keys to job fit.
The Washtenaw County 4-H horse judging contest will be held Saturday at 9 30 am at the Rural Activities Center on Saline Ann Arbor Road. 4-H members will place two classes of four animals in the morning and present reasons to judge Richard Forbush of Inkster in the afternoon. The top three total scorers will form the county team to compete for state honors at the State 4-H Show in September.
Mrs. Webb Harwood resigned the post of assistant to the treasurer of Saline Community Fair after several years in that role. Webb Harwood, the treasurer, faced no difficulty in finding a replacement as his daughter Janice volunteered and was accepted at the Fair Board meeting.
Karl Weavie finds a saddle sponsor for the annual pony naming contest at the Fair where a child may win a free pony by naming it. Bud Townsend is named poultry superintendent after assisting in prior shows. Shirley Finkeiber’s steer survived a dramatic run away and is recovering for potential special award for speed and stamina despite doubts about grand champion status.
Several families report newborns at Saline area hospitals. Lisa Sue Ander son weighs 7 pounds 2 ounces born June 29 at St Joseph Mercy. Kevin Scott Liston born July 5 weighing 8 pounds 12 ounces. Robin Lynn Reimold born July 6 weighing 6 pounds 1 ounce. Kristi Lyn Kluckey born June 29 at Saline Hospital. Lori Ann Voegeding born July 2 weighing 8 pounds 15 3/4 ounces. John Peter Depp born July 2 weighing 7 pounds 9 ounces. Vance Allen Ward born June 27 weighing 9 pounds 15 ounces. Additional deliveries include Sherry Marie Popp born June 22, Teena Marie Ruswinkle born June 27, and Dion Scott Giraud born June 28.
