Saline increased its prep league record with a 6 3 win over the Ann Arbor Elks at West Park. Dick Leidheiser hit a three run homer to move Saline ahead 5 3 in the fifth with support from Jim Griffin and Steve Miller on base. Ron Tucker relieved Doug Robinet and struck out eight Elks.

White Sox and Phillies Hold Strong in Little League Standings

In American League action the White Sox and Tigers split results with the White Sox beating the Tigers 11-5 and holding first place. In the National League the Phillies routed the Pirates 24-1 as Gerald Seeger earned the win, while the Cardinals toppled the Dodgers 12-8 and then lost to the Braves 12-8. Tiger pitcher Dale Bishop starred with 12 strikeouts in a strong showing against the Indians.

California man reunites with sister after 30 year gap

Howard Smith of Vista California and his sister Mrs Ar ther Jacobsen of Textile Road had a one hour reunion Wednesday morning after a 30 year absence. Smith, who was visiting a daughter in Rhode Island, stopped in Saline on his way back to California. Jacobsen said she would have recognized him in a crowd despite changes in appearance.

Barb to Play for Band Directors Conference at Michigan

Barbara Hehr daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Hehr will be among 80 band students in a woodwind and percussion ensemble at the University of Michigan Band Directors Conference July 14 19 She earned the spot after two weeks at Interlochen with the All State Band on a U M scholarship where 244 Michigan high school students participated The group was directed by Harry Begian Cass Tech Detroit She returned home Sunday from Interlochen.

Saline's centenarian Frances McBride to reach 102 on Sunday

Fredericka McBride, a Saline resident, will celebrate her 102nd birthday Sunday, July 14. She now resides in Washtenaw County hospital in Ann Arbor and may receive birthday cards addressed to the hospital care. Reverend George Laurent and Mrs. John Dicks visit her and say she would appreciate the cards.

Band Calendar Listings Up Sales on Increase

The 1963 64 Community Calendar, sponsored by the Band Parents Club, will list 2307 birthdays anniversaries and meeting dates with 26 organizations and 18 advertisers. Sales rise with 900 subscribers. calendars arrive late August or early September. The Saline High Band trip to Interlochen is August 19 26 with calendar support. The band marched in the July Fourth parade and will join Clinton 125th Anniversary events July 20.

City and township officials to discuss industrial plan

The Saline planning commission and Pittsfield township officials will meet July 30 at City Hall to explore a long range industrial corridor plan. They consider zoning changes, land drainage needs, and the impact on growth, with a 1980 population projection of 4,780 for Saline.
