Two Merchants Win Temporary Sign Permits
Local merchants responded to a Chamber of Commerce suggestion by writing to the state highway department about highway right of way signs. Jack Steele of Elmer Steele & Sons kept a sign in compliance though slightly over the line and hopes to remove the infringement entirely. Marty Hemenway’s Martys Restaurant sign exceeded 32 square feet and will be trimmed and moved closer to the building. Saline merchants on Michigan Avenue were warned to remove signs on or near the right of way, with Trinity Lutheran Church initially unsure which sign was targeted and later removing the east edge sign as officers moved to enforce compliance.
