Baptisms and community events fill Polk church life

Teak Timber Grows Well in Canal Zone Plantings

Teak, a hard durable wood, was introduced to the Canal Zone in April 1926 from seeds collected in Ceylon. Dr David Fairchild and P H Dorsett contributed the seed, processed through the U S Department of Agriculture Bureau of Plant Industry. Early growth indicates timber will meet standard quality and teak is valued for naval ship decking and cabinet wood.

Cotton supports nearly 13 million U S residents, with extensive uses from salad oil to machine parts. The fiber reaches some 99 percent of the world population in various forms with at least 1 000 important uses.

Central City Guests and Hastings Dinner Guests Noted

Mr and Mrs Virgil Kisler Bryan Anderson of Carter Wyoming and Mrs Hattie Anderson of Central City were supper guests Wednesday of Mrs Ida Green of Central City. The group were entertained Thursday evening at Dennis Jacobsen home in Marquette. Mr and Mrs Rudolph Gustafson and Mr and Mrs Carrol Erickson were dinner guests Sunday of Mr and Mrs Sherman Jones at Hastings.

Annual Meeting of Polk County Polio Chapter

The Polk County Chapter will meet in the Polk County Court Room on Tuesday evening April 11 1950 to elect officers. Clinton Belknap will present ten year service pins to two members and reports will be given. Polio Fund contributors are members with voting rights and invited to attend.

Rate Reductions by State Farm Ins Co in Nebraska

State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance announces reduced rates in Nebraska effective March 27 with cuts up to 25 percent on bodily injury and property damage liability and up to 26 percent on collision coverage. Census 1950 Begins April 1 With County and Farm Coverage

The 1950 census starts April 1 covering population housing and agriculture. Enumerators will visit every person dwelling and farm, with strict confidentiality and penalties for disclosure. Polk County has eleven enumerators led by M. A. Mills Jr. and will cover towns in two weeks and county in 30 days.
