Polk High School News Highlights Spring Break and Plays
Polk High plans spring vacation April 7 to 11 with early dismissal on Thursday. Good Friday to the Tuesday after Easter are included. The Old Home Town play debuts April 21 at 8 p.m. in the Polk High auditorium with a humorous cast and a large student crowd. The annual grade school program presents Pied Piper of Hamelin on April 5, featuring Bill Mae Naught as the Piper and a 24 member cast. The bouquet honors Rev Milford Olson of Evangelical Free Church for six years of service in Polk before his move to Chicago.

Polk Cubs Secure Strong Basketball Season Despite Mumps
Polk High finished with 12 wins and nine losses after a season hampered by mumps. The team surged in the county tournament, beating Shelby 46 to 45 and Stromsburg 36 to 26 for the championship, amid tough competition from district tournament winners. John Holmes led the second team with 128 points. Flodman Holmes and Kahler posted strong shooting percentages.

Mrs. M. E. Daniels Dies in California at 79
Funeral services led by Rev. Paul Walker for Mrs. M. E. Daniels who died last Wednesday in a Long Beach hospital. She is survived by three children including Mrs. Isaacson of Polk and Sam Daniels of Omaha. Interment followed in Aurora cemetery with many Polk residents attending.

New Pastor Appointed for Hordville Churches
The Rev. Carl A. E. Gustafson, from San Diego California, will assume pastor duties at Fridhem Hordville and Grace Central City Lutheran churches on Easter Sunday. He was born in Funk Nebraska and served Elbow Lake Minnesota before moving west. Gustafson is a graduate of Augustana College and Theological Seminary, and served in World War I. Interim vice-pastor Rev. Maurice Swenson of Osceola and pulpit supply by Prof. J Dowie and Delmar Carlson of Luther College assisted during the vacancy.

The Country Woman's Club met at Mrs Richard Widge's home with Mrs Grant Johnson and Mrs Orlie Miller assisting. Daisy D Slusser born February 11 1867 in South Bend Indiana lived much of her life on a Minden Nebraska farm taught school twenty years and painted waterscapes without formal training She joined the Methodist church and later Polk Church in 1929 after moving in with her brother Dr F B Slusser She cared for family and later died March 24 1950 at age 83 Funeral services were at the Methodist church with Rev Paul Walker and interment in Minden Survivors include her brother Dr F B Slusser nephews Harold and Donald Slusser and many friends
