Soil and Water Conservation Service officials urge selection of adapted grasses for pasture and forage, with cool season planted by late spring and fall, warm season by mid spring, and cost sharing available through ASCS and SCS.

Polk County farmers sign up for 1965 feed grain program
The 1965 feed grain program sign up ran Feb 8 to Mar 26 with 1394 of 1518 eligible Polk County farms choosing to participate. The county has a 155,649 acre feed grain base, 53,027 acres to be diverted if farmers follow their intentions. Advance payments equal half the diversion payment. a direct price support on planted acres will be paid at final payment time. About 1280 farms requested wheat and feed grain measurement and staking services, with plans to complete before corn and milo planting.
