Friday featured the Golden Rod conference music festival with lively performances by Polk and Osceola bands. The writer notes strong rehearsals from youth focused on cars and parties, and describes Sourdough Days with busy kitchens and coffee cups. The event emphasized instruction over competition.

Also Demolay installation of Jim Strand as York chapter master councilor with relatives present.
The fifty first Polk High School alumni banquet will be held in the high school auditorium on Friday May 28. Committees named include Program chaired by Mrs Don Ostberg with several members, Decorating chaired by Mrs Janice Baks en with a long list, Invitations chaired by Mrs Lloyd Lind, Dishes chaired by Mr and Mrs Gerald Stevens, Tables and chairs chaired by Richard Seah y Jr with multiple volunteers, Dance chaired by Dean Ostberg, Nominating chaired by Imogene Hanquist with two associates, and R S V P chaired by Mrs Anna Kisler.
The Polk Garden Club displays in the Kroger building announce the coming spring planting season. The north window features Windmills of Holland with Dutch children, a canal scene, a sailing boat and a bridge while the south window shows dolls in sun bonnets with garden tools seeds and sprinkling cans. Bouquets of tulips pussywillows and spring flowers add color to the display.
Polk County residents Mr and Mrs Verland Widga and their family were Tuesday evening guests in the home of Howard Remsdal in Bradshaw.
Polk county plans second annual Old Times Day in Osceola on Tuesday June 1 with a parade theme Yesterday and Today at 2 p.m. Raymond Chub Miller directs floats cars or costumes contact him. Stands booths are first come first served with Mrs Jim Lewis. Evening fashion show old-time costumes square dance. County displays and a photo gallery by the Historical Society. Participants welcome with more details to come.
Mrs. Mac Forbes hosted the ODD Dozen Extension Club meeting Tuesday with a cheese lesson titled Cheese for the Diet by Mrs. Gordie Sawyers and Mrs. Frank Waugh. Samples were served and a cancer reading was shown. A card party planned for March 19 and St Patrick's Day favors for Central City Hospital and Dukes Rest Home were prepared by committee members.
Mrs Grace Menssen Brauer age 89 of Polk widow of Herman G Brauer longtime owner operator of Brauer Funeral Home died Friday at daughter’s rural Hampton home after three months of heart illness Born April 10 1875 in Hanover Germany she came to the United States at age seven The Brauers operated the Polk funeral home and celebrated their 50th anniversary February 23 1947 She was member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and charter member of Ladies Aid and Woman Missionary League Surviving daughters grand children great grandchildren and siblings Funeral held Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church Polk Interment in church cemetery
The Country Woman's Club met at Mrs Willard's home on March 25 with thirteen members and three visitors present. Dorothy Adelson was elected president, Helen Samuels secretary, and Elaine Stromberg pianist. A talk on Birds in Nebraska was given by Mrs Strasburg of Central City. Births announced include a daughter Robin Kaylene to Mr and Mrs Robert Carlson of Smith Center Kansas. A hospital visit and a speaker from First Baptist Polk were noted.
The annual All-Sports Banquet will be in the high school auditorium April 12 at 7 p.m. Speaker will be Allen Zikmund head football coach at Kearney State and a former Ord resident and Ord High graduate. Tickets are available from the senior class girls.
