Big Game Hunters Kill Cats In Florida Hunting Park
In a Florida hunting park on Brahma Island near Lake Kissimmee, wealthy hunters killed about two dozen big cats including lions tigers jaguars leopards and cougars. Animals were released from concealed cages and shot at close range with guides aiding hunters. One man, Jamie Zito, faces misdemeanor charges for illegally importing and selling captive animals. The park operators Layne Lightsey and Cary Lightsey faced limited action as officials say verbal permission may have existed and the Endangered Species Act could exempt some animals.
