Amherst council tables Quarry Creek plan over emergency access concerns

Amherst council tabled a decision on the Quarry Creek Residential Neighborhood off North Dewey Road after residents urged a safe emergency access solution. Developer Sommers Real Estate Group plans a 174-unit project and may add a gated 22 foot emergency road with a culvert bridge, potentially bridging to Spruce Tree Lane in Rock Creek Run. A hydrologist and engineering firm will study viability, with a target April 9 decision.

Kids make galaxies out of STEM slime at Amherst Library

Amherst Public Library hosted a STEM activity where youths learned to create galaxy themed slime ahead of a solar eclipse. Youth Services librarian Megan Karhusz led the session and provided a slime recipe and moon sand for added sensory play.
