North Ridgeville Named Dementia Friendly City in Ohio
Terri Lanham and Kendal at Home helped North Ridgeville earn a Dementia Friendly America designation, making the city one of seven in Ohio and the only one in Lorain County. The effort, backed by the City Council, aims to boost outreach, education, and resources for residents with dementia and their caregivers.

Lorain County approves sewer bridge and airport contracts
The Lorain County Board of Commissioners approved several contracts for sewer and bridge work plus a major airport project. A $500,000 ODOT aviation grant funds phase two of pavement and apron rehab at Lorain County Regional Airport with a $64,640 local share. Fechko Excavating won a $497,226 Forestview Street sewer extension, 1964 feet of 10 inch pipe to be installed by November 30, with 50 percent reimbursement from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District. A $9,900 under water inspection contract for East 31st Street Bridge was approved, and cooperation was agreed with North Ridgeville on replacing Chestnut Ridge Road Bridge.

Truck Struck Under Elyria Railroad Bridge Closes Street
A United branded semitruck wedged under the Norfolk Southern bridge on Washington Avenue in downtown Elyria last week. Police closed the street from Broad Street to the river parking lot for about an hour after 5 p.m. and Sugar Ridge Inc. Towing assisted, detaching the trailer. By 6:30 p.m. the vehicle was removed and authorities planned to cite the driver for failure to control.

Nord gift creates STEM Discovery Institute at LCCC
The Eric and Jane Nord Family Fund donated 5 million dollars to Lorain County Community College Foundation to establish the STEM Discovery Institute on the Elyria campus. The project supports College Credit Plus and aims to lift local high school graduates with college credit, boosting STEM pathways for first generation and economically disadvantaged students. Eight Commodore Hall of Fame members were inducted during the 60th anniversary events, and the College Center building will be named the Eric & Jane Nord College Center. The LCCC Foundation marked 50 years of philanthropic support with the GRADitude event.
