Johnson family revels in their pioneer life on island

The A Norman Johnsons and daughter Kathryn built a hand tool A-frame cabin on a three by a half mile island off Vancouver Island near Nanaimo. They sourced timber from their land, pumped water from a well, and use a wood stove. Duncan couple marks 50 years in Lompoc with family celebration

Two Travelers Visit Mexico City and Taxco

Ronald L. Pace and former student Mike Dingle traveled from Los Angeles to Mexico City for a week long visit. They toured the floating gardens Toltec Ruins Pyramid of the Sun and visited Taxco known as the silver city.

Lumen Vitae League Plans Five Fundraising Events

The Lumen Vitae League and Children's Home Society set five fundraisers this year to aid adoption and parental support programs. A fall bridge marathon kicks off the events with timing to be announced. Santa visits and Christmas card sales continue as ongoing efforts. A melodrama produced with Kay LaRue as director will stage January 2% in Lompoc with Civic Theater backing. Opening night champagne for Wake Up Darling on Oct 4 at Civic Auditorium will be hosted by the league.

Grange marks 107 years of history in Lompoc chapter

The Lompoc Grange started in 1937 with 20 members and now has 360 members with a quarter under 21. George Burroughs leads as master, citing family strength and gender equality as keys to the Grange’s longevity. The organization, founded by Oliver Kelley and six others, grew from farmer discontent to lobby for reforms and cabinet status for agriculture.
