Lompoc Council to decide appointment or election for vacant seat

The four member Lompoc City Council plans a 7:80 p.m. meeting at City Hall to decide whether to fill the late councilman Sol Lefkowitz’s unexpired term by appointment or by election. Mayor Stevens favors an election but will keep the discussion open if appointment is chosen. Potential candidates include Mrs Elinor Lefkowitz and Robert L. Kranig, with possible March 1975 election if required.

Lompoc Unified opens fall term for twelve thousand students

The Lompoc Unified School District begins its fall term with an estimated 12 000 students and 500 teachers across 18 schools. A $16 million budget supports new vocational programs at Lompoc High and junior highs, including construction technology, graphics with computer typesetting, and the World in Construction initiative. The year runs from tomorrow to June 5, 1975, with several staff additions and new teachers, mostly for secondary grades.

Youth charged with murder of Lompoc father

Owen Gerry Etheridge, 16, remained in Santa Barbara County Juvenile Hall after admitting he fired a .22 rifle shot that killed his father Roscoe Owens Etheridge, 60, in their backyard. Police found the body buried on a hill near Santos Road. Funeral services for the father are set for Thursday at 3 p.m. in Enterprise, Mississippi.

Baby 20 months lost as wave hits rock off Vandenberg coast

A 20 month old baby, Cass M. Ransom, was swept from a rock while his mother stood nearby during a Saturday hike at the North Vandenberg coast. Sgt. and Mrs. Ransom of 630 North A Street, pt. A, along with Coast Guard and Santa Barbara County units, conducted a multi agency search into Sunday with no result. Mrs. Ransom was hospitalized at Vandenberg AFB.

Six die in Labor Day highway crash in Tennessee

A stolen car fleeing police crashed into another vehicle in Nashville Tennessee, killing six people including a young couple and their two children. The Labor Day weekend toll rose as travelers headed home, with 450 to 550 expected deaths nationwide. In Tennessee eleven people were killed in two highway crashes.

Nine candidates file for Lompoc Hospital District board seats

Nine candidates, including two incumbents Frank Signorelli and Joe Machado, are officially in the race for three four year seats on the Lompoc Hospital District Board of Directors. Incumbent Donald G. Cameron will not seek reelection. The election is set for November 5 on the general ballot.
