Eight candidates contest three seats in the Lompoc Hospital District board race for the Nov 5 election. Incumbents Frank Signorelli and Joe Machado are joined by Howard M. Whitaker Carol Ann Johnson Glenn C. Ballantyne Stanley Setlock Jr. Dennis Y Inouye and John E. Skaggs Jr. Cameron will not seek reelection. Skaggs received clearance after filing though he had not taken the oath. Deadline is 5 p.m. today with district legal counsel Michael Palmer.

Mexican president refuses to deal with kidnap gang

Gov. Reagan plans to veto SB 1592 which would allocate about 74 million dollars for extra aid paid per student. Lompoc Unified would receive roughly 180 thousand dollars based on an ADA of about 12 000, a Sacramento source said.
