Girl bitten by poisonous snake at Six Flags park
In Allenton Missouri a 15 year old St Louis girl Debby Binder was bitten on the ankle by a copperhead near a pizza parlor in the Old Chicago section of Six Flags over Mid America. Park officials said rain diluted snake repellent the day of the Aug 28 incident and a crystal type repellent was adopted afterward. The girl was treated at the park and later released in good condition from Barnes Hospital.

SR71 breaks transatlantic speed record at Farnborough
The SR71 Blackbird flew 3 490 miles from New York to Farnborough in about one hour and 60 minutes, surpassing the previous record by nearly three hours. Majors Sullivan and Widdiefield piloted the two man craft as Ford congratulated them by telephone. The record case was to be certified by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale. A helicopter crash during the show killed Stewart Craig and injured pilot Kurt Cannon.
