New York AP reports that terms like stock market prime rate savings and budget are strained by rising prices and high interest. The piece notes investors fear declines, savings yields lag inflation, and pass through pricing shifts leave consumers bearing the costs.
A national survey of Snelling and Snelling offices shows 87 percent of management personnel rate employment prospects as good with expansion for 1974. Regions with strong outlooks include the Southeast Northwest Mid-South South-Central and North-Central states while Mid-Atlantic and New England show tighter markets. Bank economists at First National City Bank and Citibank say commodity prices have peaked and a downswing is under way as monetary policy tightens.
