Iowa Supreme Court Justice Hass resigns from bench
Iowa Supreme Court Justice Norman Hass of Knoxville submitted his resignation to Gov Harold Hughes effective August. He is 74 and has served since 1964, the third Iowa justice to retire this year after Henry Peterson and G K Thompson. A contractors association spokesman accused the governor of shirking duties by not naming an arbitration board to settle a strike-halting dispute between contractors and local 74 of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers. The state board of control will quit farming at four mental health institutions and sell the assets, noting farming profits but distraction from core duties. Nixon urged intensified military pressure on North Vietnam and proposed an American committee to aid the North, introduced by former President Eisenhower.
