Mrs James Graven of Greene and Burton Sprole of Allison filed nomination papers for re election to the Butler County Board of Education. Both are unopposed in their districts and election is September 13 1965 at regular voting places.
State Conservation Commission officials announced inviolate no trespassing waterfowl refuges from September 11 to December 10. Refuge boundaries will be posted with yellow wildlife signs and no trespassing signs. The following areas are fully or partially off limits across multiple counties including Monona, Des Moines, Warren, Guthrie, Clay, Buena Vista, and others, with named ponds marshes lakes and wildlife areas.
Mr and Mrs Faber Miller of Austin Minnesota welcomed a daughter born August 22 named Angela Roose. Grandparents are Mrs Gladys Miller of Greene and Mr and Mrs Stanley Roose of Bristow.
The Greene Community Schools opened for the 1965-1966 year with 752 students on the first day, 23 fewer than last year. Kindergarten through sixth grade total 365, junior high 124, high school 262, with detailed counts by grade.
The Third Town District Fall Conference of the American Legion will be in Sumner Iowa on Saturday September 11 1965. Over 400 Legion and Auxiliary representatives from multiple counties will plan programs for the year. Registration at 830 p.m. at Legion Hall and City Hall with a 930 service school. General sessions at 1 p.m. after a noon luncheon. District leaders preside at separate meetings. A joint evening banquet at Legion Hall features talks by Department Commander David E Weichman and Auxiliary President Aden Onwen, plus Summer High School Swing Show entertainment. Co chairmen Wilbert and Inez Becker and Neva Wilson urge attendance.

The Greene Commercial Club announces Greene stores will close Monday September 6 to observe Labor Day. Greene Community Schools and St Marys Academy will also close. The Post Office will be closed all day with mail received and dispatched on other holidays. there will be no rural route delivery.
Don Kielman underwent surgery last Thursday morning at Mercy Hospital Cedar Rapids. His address is Room 414, 4th floor, Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Butler County Farm Bureau Public Relations Committee will hold a Labor Day coffee stop at the roadside park in Allison from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Free coffee milk and homemade cookies will be offered to passing motorists. If successful, more stops are planned around the county next year.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Thomason and family attended the Fort Dodge boat races on Sunday where Terry Thomason won two seconds in A runabout and placed 3rd and 4th in B Utility and B Hydro events.
The Greene Community School District will hold a regular election on Monday September 13 for two three year terms. Nomination papers must be filed by 12:00 noon CST Friday September 3 with the district secretary Betty Brunsma, and require ten qualified electors signatures. One nomination has been filed from Dayton Township. no filings yet from Coldwater Township. Clyde Stuntz currently serves from Dayton Township and is eligible for re election. Harry Ott of Coldwater Township has not filed to run.
Over 200 NFO delegates from 16 counties will attend the 3rd District NFO District Convention on Wednesday at the Labor Temple in Charles City. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the meeting at 10:00 a.m. Officers Merle Hall Forest Citys president James Conrin Rockwell vice president Mrs Rollin Howell Rockford secretary Mrs Elaine Cox Leland treasurer and John Engels Rockford National director. New officers and committee members to be elected for the State Convention in October and National Convention in December. Floyd County NFC Auxiliary will serve dinner at noon.
Wayne Thomason and his son Terry traveled to Hermosa South Dakota for the funeral services of Lloyd Robinson a former Greene area resident who died Saturday night. Funeral services and burial are set for today in Hermosa.
Clyde Wegand age 81 born December 16 1883 in Coldwater Township son of Newton and Addie Wegand lived in Greene area most of life. He married Edna Leesood in 1916 and worked as supervisor store owner and farmer with interest in pure bred cattle. Survived by wife one son Max daughters Kay and another, thirteen grandchildren, brother Harold Wegand and sister Ruth Emmett. Funeral at First Methodist Church Greene Saturday at 2 06 pm conducted by Rev Wayne Gjerde. Burial Ro Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel arranged.

Linda Jackson daughter of Mr and Mrs K Jackson leaves Saturday for I via Louisiana to teach at the Sager Brown school for underprivileged children established in 1921. The school operates under the US mission program of the Methodist Church. Miss Jackson will serve two years.
Transportation aid warrants were issued to 624 school districts on August 27, 1965. Total claims amount to 7,200,877.70 with 4,000,000.00 to be distributed at a 55.5487840 percent pro rata. Butler County districts receiving funds include Allison-Bristow, Arlington, Clarksville, Dumont, Greene, New Hartford, and Parkersburg Community Schools with amounts ranging from 3,930.99 to 7,564.79.

The meeting starts at 7:00 p m with a free serve yourself ham supper followed by a RAVE contest with Butler County talent.

LeAnn Wilken daughter of Mr and Mrs Dale Wilken recently returned to the University Hospital in Iowa City for a check in. Doctors report her progress as exceptionally good. She completed her school make-up this summer and started to school with the fifth trade pupils. She will return to Town City on September 24 for a five day series of drug injections.
County editors were escorted Thursday morning by Butler County Engineer Dave Everds and Supervisors Cecil Tarkweather Harold Vass and W H Skinner on a tour of road projects. Officials explained phases of resurfacing work and shoulder requirements while noting budget limits and planned material use for the current and next year.
Mrs Gladys Miller was discharged and returned home last Wednesday from University Hospital in Town City after several days of observation. Local residents wish her a speedy recovery and note her release comes amid ongoing community health efforts.
