Areas Closed to Trespassing During Waterfowl Seasons

State Conservation Commission officials announced inviolate no trespassing waterfowl refuges from September 11 to December 10. Refuge boundaries will be posted with yellow wildlife signs and no trespassing signs. The following areas are fully or partially off limits across multiple counties including Monona, Des Moines, Warren, Guthrie, Clay, Buena Vista, and others, with named ponds marshes lakes and wildlife areas.

Greene Community Schools Open With 752 Enrolled

The Greene Community Schools opened for the 1965-1966 year with 752 students on the first day, 23 fewer than last year. Kindergarten through sixth grade total 365, junior high 124, high school 262, with detailed counts by grade.

American Legion District Conference at Sumner Sept 11

The Third Town District Fall Conference of the American Legion will be in Sumner Iowa on Saturday September 11 1965. Over 400 Legion and Auxiliary representatives from multiple counties will plan programs for the year. Registration at 830 p.m. at Legion Hall and City Hall with a 930 service school. General sessions at 1 p.m. after a noon luncheon. District leaders preside at separate meetings. Farm Bureau Plans Coffee Stop Monday

The Butler County Farm Bureau Public Relations Committee will hold a Labor Day coffee stop at the roadside park in Allison from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Free coffee milk and homemade cookies will be offered to passing motorists. If successful, more stops are planned around the county next year.

Greene Community School Board Election Set for Sept 13

The Greene Community School District will hold a regular election on Monday September 13 for two three year terms. Nomination papers must be filed by 12:00 noon CST Friday September 3 with the district secretary Betty Brunsma, and require ten qualified electors signatures. One nomination has been filed from Dayton Township. no filings yet from Coldwater Township. Clyde Stuntz currently serves from Dayton Township and is eligible for re election. Harry Ott of Coldwater Township has not filed to run.

Rites Held for Clyde Wegand 81 in Greene

Clyde Wegand age 81 born December 16 1883 in Coldwater Township son of Newton and Addie Wegand lived in Greene area most of life. He married Edna Leesood in 1916 and worked as supervisor store owner and farmer with interest in pure bred cattle. Survived by wife one son Max daughters Kay and another, thirteen grandchildren, brother Harold Wegand and sister Ruth Emmett.
