Tax Collects Sales and Use Revenue by Butler County

The State Tax Commission reports quarterly sales and use tax totals. Greene led in county returns with 17,145.15, Parkersburg third at 12,276.82, Clarksville 9,642.85, and Allison 13,834 for retailers. Additional towns posted smaller sums. twenty nine use tax returns totaled 2,010.02.

Graveside services were held Wednesday August 11 at 11:00 am at the Nor wetk Cemetery for the stillborn infant son of Jerry L. and Frances Ann Starkweather at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Rev. Berkenke officiated. Survived by parents two brothers James Kent and Paul Wilson of Nor walk and by maternal and paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Berton Shultz and Mr and Mrs C G Starkweather of Greene. Glen M. Kelly 76 died at his Plainfield home on Sunday August 15. Born June 6, 1889, he lived in Plainfield and was survived by his wife Alice Gilliand four sons Calvin K. Kelly Bord Kelly Emery and Wayne at home eight grandchildren and one great grandson. One son and one daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Plainfield Methodist Church with burial planned in Centuria Wisconsin on Thursday.

The Greene Sportsman Club hosts an annual fish fry Friday evening August 27 at the high school auditorium. Tickets are sold by club members and local businesses. City's Young Men To Hear Jaycees Open Meeting

The Charles City Jaycees schedule an 8:00 pm August 24 open meeting at the Greene Community Center to discuss forming a Greene Junior Chamber of Commerce. Natural Gas System Proposed For Local Residents

Local residents may receive a natural gas system after a town council meeting with Art Brownlee of Northern Natural Gas and Art Krenger presenting the plan. Death in Auto Crash Takes John O Keefe

John O Keefe was killed in an auto accident while driving home from the DeWoody Plant after a night shift. The 31 year old Davenport resident died at 4:00 after a vehicle driven by Rev Cathagan struck his car on Highway 30 west of Cedar Rapids. Roger Stewart Arrived in Germany

Roger Stewart, son of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Stewart, has arrived in Germany to be stationed for one and a half years with the United States Army.
