Stored water released from Fort Peck reservoir
Army engineers at Fort Peck are releasing stored water to stabilize Missouri River flow downstream to Sioux City Iowa. The dam’s release rates exceed inflow, powering tunnels at 19 000 cubic feet per second with hydraulic jumps over 15 feet high. Plans call for two 35 000 kilowatt generators powered by water wheels in tunnel No 1 with contracts likely in early 1939.
