Last Woman City Mail Carrier Retires in Anaconda

Miss Anna McDonald, the last woman city mail carrier in the United States, ends an 11 mile route after two decades of rain or shine service. She started as a letter carrier in September 1918 during World War I shortages and reportedly logged about 66 600 miles with 2 690 112 stops and 283 tons carried. Postal officials say a national record for women was set, but regulations now bar women from city mail routes, so she moved to a clerical post in the Anaconda post office.
