Commencement exercises for the fourth division of the class of 1938 at Montana State Normal College were held in the college auditorium. Fifteen seniors received degrees and 31 sophomores their two year diplomas. Pref. Sheldon E. Davis conferred the awards and announced the class honor roll.

Rancher of Lima Passes After Brief Illness
Charles Rody 76 longtime Lima rancher in Beaverhead County died Friday night at Barrett hospital after a short illness. Born in Illinois in 1862 he lived 30 years in the Centennial valley area. Survived by widow and two children Gustav and Dora Rody of Lima. Funeral held yesterday in Lima with Rev A W Nelson of First Lutheran officiating. Interment in Lima cemetery.

WPA Supervisors Meet at Missoula Last Week
Mrs Ida F Olsen Dillon sewing room supervisor returned from a three day WPA supervisors conference in Missoula hosted by the WPA department of education. Edith Hartwood led sessions with fifty five sewing room supervisors and adult education teachers from 15 Montana communities including Butte Dillon Helena Livingston Bozeman and others.

Resident of Grasshopper Valley Dies at Ranch Home
Mrs. Carl Knoll, Sr., longtime Grasshopper valley resident, died at her ranch Thursday afternoon after years of poor health. Born in Germany in 1867, she came to Beaverhead county in 1890 and lived in the Grasshopper area most of her life. She is survived by her husband, two sons Carl Jr and John, and four daughters Mrs. Earl Tash Mrs. Otto Pahnish and Mrs. Norman Nelson.

Pittsburg Mining Man Hosts Miners Visit Saturday
Ralph A. Davis of Pittsburg Pennsylvania principal stockholder in the Bon Acord drag line operations welcomed the Mining Association of Montana delegates on an excursion to Bon Acord and other districts west of Dillon Saturday afternoon He showed the drag line in operation and provided a Dutch lunch with beer and limburger cheese during the visit.

New Bird Species Released in Beaverhead Vicinity
Twenty chukkar partridges from the state game farm were released in the Beaverhead valley and vicinity last Friday by local sportsmen. The birds mark the first of their species in Beaverhead’s population and no open season will occur for several years. Also about 200 Chinese pheasants were released in the same area from the state game farm.

Parade Closes Dillon Girl Scout Summer Program
More than 100 Dillon youngsters joined a Friday parade led by the Dillon Elks drum and bugle corps, its first home appearance after state and interstate wins. Prizes went to Hawaiian Girl Scouts, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a miner on a bicycle, Colleen Abbott as Mae West, and other divisions, as onlookers packed city streets and the Mining Association of Montana paused to watch.

County Down Valuation for the Year Shrinks in Beaverhead
Beaverhead county’s taxable valuation fell slightly from the previous year. Figures compiled by Clerk and Recorder Albert S. Baker show a 1938 total of 4,843,542 compared with 4,972,224 last year. The City of Dillon valuation rose per Baker’s figures, totaling 862. Continued on page 3.

Lutheran Pastor Resigns for New Post in Houston Minn

A University of Montana B A graduate, Ross has seven years of teaching experience in Watertown South Dakota Drummond and Dillon. Beaverhead county's Democratic and Republican parties will hold meetings next week to name chairmen and central-committee officers for the coming campaign. The Democratic meeting is set for Thursday night August 18 in the court room at the courthouse, chaired by C. E. Blinn.
