Plans for Daily Vacation Church School At Bryan

The Federated Church Societies of Bryan plan a daily vacation school at College Avenue Baptist Church from June 5 to 16. An educational committee and numerous Bryan church members list names to serve as teachers assistants heads of departments and helpers. All Bryan children ages 6 to 14 are invited to attend.

Plans for a labor gathering in Austin to press the Texas legislature to submit a $20,000,000 relief bond issue to a public vote were arranged at a Laporte meeting of unemployed men. They planned to coordinate with other unemployed groups across the state for the event.

Methodists Lose Shutout to Free Will Baptists

The Free Will Baptists defeated the Methodists 4 to 0 at Travis school in a fast, well played game. Sodd pitched for the Baptists with Franklin, while Gainey and Mayfield teamed for the Methodists. Norris Johnson made a sensational catch for Methodist, and Jones contributed two great catches for the Baptists.

Race Wager Plan Added Monday to Department Bill

A free conference committee on the departmental appropriations bill voted to recommend legalizing the certificate system of wagering on horse races. A rider to create a racing commission under agriculture was added, with an 8 percent tax on the operator’s share. The bill returns to the legislature by Thursday. The house had rejected a pari mutuel bill.

Bryan Couple Weds at St Josephs in Morning Ceremony

Bryan residents Susie Andert and August Fridel were married at St Josephs Catholic Church in a 9 o’clock Monday ceremony officiated by Rt Rev J B Gleissner. The couple hosted a reception at the bride’s sister’s home on Leonard School Road before plans to live on Highway 21 past the American Legion.

St Andrew's Sunday School Plans Friday Picnic

Members of the St Andrew's Episcopal Sunday School will enjoy a picnic Friday afternoon May 12 at Sue Haswell Memorial Park starting at 4 30 p m. The program features games and races for children with prizes and a adults softball game. Annual B T S Picnic Held at Haswell Park

The Baptist Training Service of the First Baptist Church held its annual picnic at Sue Haswell Memorial Park Monday evening with about 75 attendees from seven unions. Activities included games, playground baseball, a communal meal after prayers by J L Cobb, and continued baseball until dark under the direction of H P Black with lunch guided by Mrs R O Berry.
