Conway Held in Fatal Shooting Case Near Bryan

Conway told police in Bryan that he and Miss Hammond were held up at a Hearne highway underpass by two men and a woman. Miss Hammond was killed. Conway was wounded in the left shoulder. Texas Rangers, led by Capt. Frank Hammond and Capt. W. C. Hammond, have arrested several suspects but Conway did not identify them.

Entomological Expert Leads Western Trip

Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Reppert and daughters Louise and Barbara left Tuesday for a western tour including the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone Park. They will visit Extension Service personnel in Logan Utah and Laramie Wyoming and plan to spend days at Manhattan Kansas with Prof Geo A Dean of Kansas State Agricultural College to discuss heat treatment of mills and methods to improve a cowpea weevil control machine.

Bethea petitions for lower bonds in burglary case

Attorney Lamar Bethea filed a writ of habeas corpus in Judge J. H. Tate's court at Giddings seeking to lower bonds for three defendants Howard Douglass Paul Lang and A G Square charged with burglarizing the D Earl Porter store in Burleson County. The men were held on $2000 bonds after arrest in Bryan following recovery of merchandise identified as from the Porter store.

Marriage of Miss Mary Bennett and P Ellison Planned in Normangee

A society note reports the betrothal of Miss Mary Olive Bennett and P Ellison both of Normangee to take place Thursday at the bride’s parents home in Normangee. Miss Bennett, daughter of Mack Bennett, is a noted musician and former Simmons University faculty member. Ellison known as Lefty a Baylor alumnus and Southwest first team selection, is now in business with his father.

Entomologist R R Reppert and team demonstrated a new pea and grain weevil destroying machine built in Huntsville prison shops. The device treats peas for 11 minutes at 149 degrees F to kill weevils, with 185 degrees F not harming germination. Larger model built at Huntsville moved to Sugar Land for use on cowpeas and beans. potential statewide impact noted with Texas crop values.

Barbecue Supper at Millican Baptist Church

A barbecue supper will be served Thursday night August 24 at 8 o'clock at the Millican Baptist church. Tickets cost 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for children. Prohibition speaking by Rev. R. L. Brown appointed.

Holsteins At A M Now On Test Show High Production

The Texas A M test of 38 registered Holsteins shows 16 exceeding 40 pounds fat in the latest monthly period. Five surpass 50 pounds with Tidy Princess Posch leading at 61.8 pounds fat and 2126 pounds milk. Nadine Madam Princess De Kol completes her test with 358 percent fat and 11 375.5 pounds milk in 258 days. The program notes Class B three milk tests and rising registrations. The Holstein-Friesian Association reports growing interest with 250 new members enrolled since January and over 43 000 Holsteins registered in the period.
