County commissioners clash over billing clerk hire

Athens County Commissioners Lenny Eliason and Charlie Adkins hired Makina Milum, one of 20 applicants, as a billing clerk after a split vote. Commissioner Chris Chmiel called the process a joke and alleged nepotism, while Eliason defended the decision and noted Milum had interned since April. Milum’s full time salary was set between 10 and 12 dollars per hour.

West Virginia man pleads innocent in Athens County drug case

Randall A. Beatty, 29, arraigned in Athens County Common Pleas Court on a July 2014 indictment charging possession of heroin two years after an August 2013 alleged event. The second-degree felony involves 48.17 grams of heroin. Bond set at 50,000 without 10 percent. pretrial hearing scheduled for Oct. 14.

Athens man charged after lying about identity

Athens man Joshua Reed 25 is jailed without bond after a traffic stop in The Plains led to charges for fictitious registration driving under suspension and drug offenses. Deputies later learned he used the name Richard Hudnall and found heroin residue and a used syringe, with pending lab results and a grand jury indiction.

Ohio boy with overdose caregivers gains new home

In Columbiana County Ohio a four year old boy pictured in police photos in a car with a grandmother and her boyfriend overdosed is awarded custody to great aunt and great uncle in South Carolina. The grandmother Rhonda Pasek already had custody six weeks earlier. Acord pled guilty to child endangerment and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
