Nelsonville wins nearly $1.7M TAP sidewalk award
Nelsonville will receive a federal TAP award of about 1.68 million dollars for a Downtown Sidewalk Improvements project in the Public Square beginning in fiscal year 2018. Funding comes from Toll Revenue Credit with 95 percent federal funds. City officials discussed the award with the Finance Committee and city council.

Detroit man found guilty of drug offenses in Ohio
Jelani Walker, 36, of Detroit, convicted by a Athens County jury on two second-degree felonies for aggravated possession and aggravated trafficking in drugs after a two day trial. He was acquitted on a fifth degree felony charge and fled police, later surrendering after a pond standoff near The Plains. Walker testified in his defense.

County seeks compensation over road damage from injection well
Athens County commissioners discussed road damage blamed on trucks hauling drilling waste to an injection well on Ladd Ridge Road. County Engineer Jeff Maiden asked for a closed session to discuss possible litigation. Negotiations with Carper Well Service will continue through Assistant Prosecutor Zach Saunders. If unresolved, litigation remains. A 2016 letter proposed a $50,000 one-time payment and a 47 cent per barrel surcharge, higher than the previously offered 10 cents. The letter notes Carper Injection Well Albany LLC owns the site. Millard Carper had transferred title in 2015. Road details continue on page A2.
