Concrete work starts on the Margaret Creek dam at Lake Snowden as engineers plan the earthfill structure. Seven contracts remain for the lake project including water system buildout and recreation facilities with federal loans and a Farmers Home Administration grant funding the effort.

Twelve year old Sherry Scott of 433 Richland Ave was treated at Sheltering Arms Hospital for an arm injury after her bicycle collided with a moving car on Richland Avenue near 7 pm Friday. The driver, Leather I Rice, 43, Athens Route 1, was not charged. The bike struck the car’s front fender and door as Sherry steered off the sidewalk.
