Amid renewed DMZ fighting, U S dive bombers and artillery struck North Vietnamese fortifications. The ground clash left 20 American dead and 71 wounded in five days, with 297 enemy soldiers killed and 13 more by air and artillery. Reinforcements and shifting regiments along the DMZ raise Allied concerns as U S forces plan drawdown by August.
In Columbus Ohio 18 year old Ohio State student from Mt Gilead was coowner of Olde Day Princess in a dairy association contest. Other court members named include Jenny Jones Jennifer Dean and Lois Sparkle. Also Columbus police report the first hard narcotics evidence near the OSU area after a raid that led to seven arrests including teenagers and two young girls found in a city apartment.

The ruling followed appeals court action and aimed to clear the way for Burger to succeed Earl Warren when the term ends. Randall Phillips, opposing Burger, argued he and others were barred from testifying and from accessing the hearing, with key counsel not responding to delays. Three law professors were ready to urge the Senate not to confirm based on specific appellate decisions.
Towson Maryland hosted the single ring wedding of Pamela Agnew daughter of Vice President Spiro Agnew and Mrs Agnew to Robert DeHaven attended by President Nixon and Mrs Nixon. The ceremony at Towson Presbyterian Church took place at 4 p.m. with about 350 relatives and friends. Rev Robert W Galloway officiated. The bride wore white silk with a veil and bouquet of white flowers. DeHaven is the son of Virgil and Mrs DeHaven of White Marsh Maryland. The Nixons celebrated their 29th anniversary nearby at Camp David.
