Iowa Year in Review Highlights Deaths and Reapportionment Split
The year featured major political shifts as Iowa weighed a permanent constitutional plan versus a temporary one, with Supreme Court population basics looming. Traffic fatalities topped 825 after a deadly year, including seven in Waterville, while Hoover’s death and solemn burial marked a national memory. Reapportionment clashes split GOP ranks, riots at Fort Madison and Anamosa drew scrutiny, and university leadership saw Hancher retire and Parks named successor.
