Psychologist Finds Few People Offer Help On Elevators
Ohio State psychologist Bibb Latane reports experiments showing bystander effect: in crowded elevators, people are less likely to help someone who drops coins or pencils. Across 1,500 trials in Columbus Seattle and Atlanta, help dropped with more bystanders. Latane ties results to diffusion of responsibility.
