Break-in suspect held in Keosauqua
Paul A. Ewing of Unionville Iowa was captured by Van Buren County officers after a pre-dawn break in at Popejoy's DX Station in Brighton and a second break in at Keosauqua Monday night Two accomplices escaped Ewing confessed to stealing tires batteries license plates knives and some cash and led authorities to the loot He faces breaking and entering charges from the Keosauqua incident with further charges pending from Washington County theft.

Appeal Possible Over Iowa Self-Serve Gas Ban Ruling
DES MOINES UPI The state may appeal a Dubuque County District Court decision that invalidates Iowa's ban on self-service gas. Judge Nelson found the ban was invalidly enacted in 1957 due to lack of a public hearing and notice.
