Prices for choice steers in the Iowa-Southern Minnesota area ranged 36.50 to 37.50 per hundredweight amid stronger consumer demand for beef. An economist noted higher cattle prices reflect demand gains while beef by products may weaken if hide exports tighten. A separate Des Moines report announced a $29,000 U S grant for Kirkwood Community College to study enrollment and population trends affecting Iowa's 15 area vocational technical schools and community colleges.
