Tar Being Spread On The Tula Highway
Tar has been poured on the Tula road this week nearing a fall opening if sustained. The road remains closed to the public as sub grade work and drainage are tackled amid swampy terrain and heavy rains. Officials expect traffic to resume during the Legion convention week at Tronwood after the contractor improves drainage and regrades 300 feet of sub grade. Extra postage for second deliveries will apply as parcels delayed at post offices incur local-rate charges. Bedell Stewart returns home from Detroit. Pearl Bielicki joins Skud and Goldman. Residents anticipate a near 120 year last total solar eclipse in this district with viewing from 2:00 pm to 4:12 pm standard time. Greatest obscuration occurs shortly after 3:00 pm as the sun shows a deep indentation. No telescope needed, dark glass or photographic negatives advised. City considers charter election after attorney’s opinion
City officials await a ruling from City Attorney W. S. Baird on petitions for a charter revision and an advisory vote on aldermanic government. If favorable, a special election will be set. not on August 2 as petitions arrived late for the general election. Nine charter commission candidates must be elected when the revision election is called.

Renovation Planned for Skud and Goldman Store Property
Work to renovate and raise the Skud and Goldman store property will begin next week, Baerwald of Bessemer announced as the successful bidder. The building will be overhauled with a new front and interior rearrangement, costing over 5000 dollars. The Wakefield Memorial Community Building dedication set for Wednesday Aug 28 will feature Col Augustus Gansser former commander of the Michigan American Legion and state senator as principal speaker. The 8 pm program includes a dedicatory address by Dr Harkness and a dance to follow. A zoo idea prompts a new bear den plan near city hall. Local residents make a series of visits and travel notices.
