New York State Canal System freight tonnage through July 31 climbs 3.9 percent year over year to 1,397,130 tons, led by Champlain Canal at 609,071 tons up 15.7 percent. A public hearing will be held at the town office on Vischer Ferry Road at 7 30 p m today to discuss a proposed dog control ordinance affecting about 1200 dogs. The law requires collars or restraint with owner or responsible person present and excludes farm dogs. Violations carry fines up to 25 dollars and provisions cover property damage nuisance chasing and a designated dog warden for enforcement and filing complaints.
The Rensselaer County Historical Society shows an exhibit of early lighting devices from private collectors, NY State Historical Association, and its own permanent collection. Highlights include camphene and whale oil lamps, 18th and 19th century candlesticks, candle moulds, and dipping tools for candles.
The funeral of Salvatore Agostine former Democratic committeeman of the fifth Ward was held yesterday morning from the residence 75 Hill Street and from St Marys Church where a Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev Daniel H Markham. Bearers all grandsons were Frank Agostino Jr Sam A Agostino Jr John Tomas John Finelli William Miller Frank Miller Jr Charles Pike and Donald Nailor. Interment followed at St Marys Cemetery with Father Markham officiating.
