Rites Held for Mrs Ruth Haag in Sumner
Ruth Haag, 74, died Tuesday at Sumner hospital of carcinoma. Funeral services were Thursday at First Baptist Church with burial in Wilson Grove Cemetery. She was born Aug 21 1887 at Federicksburg, married Urban Haag in 1909, and the couple later operated Haag Service Station in Sumner. Survivors include five daughters, two sons, 26 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, a brother and a sister, with several relatives noted. Her husband died in 1961 and two sons and three grandchildren preceded her.

Meteor falls as Iowa marks first state university act
Iowa's first recorded meteor struck about ten minutes before three on February 25, 1847, the same day Ansel Briggs, first governor, approved an act by the General Assembly creating the State University of Iowa in Iowa City.
