Readlyn Telephone Co completes final installation of Stromberg Carlson equipment to convert 500 lines to dial operation. Linemen begin telephones cut over Friday with help from Plainfield Janesville Maynard Sumner. Long distance remains via local punchboard. direct dialing projected by March 1 1964. Tripoli High Vocal Dept Presents Christmas Cantata Night of Miracles

Tripoli High School vocal music department presents the Christmas cantata Night of Miracles by John W. Peterson on December 17 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. About 130 vocalists will perform in massed chorus with soloists and narrators telling the Christmas story. Attending is free and open to the public.

Tripoli Mercantile Adopts New Adjustable Shelving

A remodeling project began at Tripoli Mercantile on Thursday evening installing adjustable shelving. The upgrade will expand shelf facing in the grocery department by about 20 percent due to new items. Aisles will widen to improve shopping ease. Completion is not expected until early 1964.

Public Hearing on Bremer County Zoning Plan Here

A public hearing was held Tuesday at Tripoli Town Hall where Bremer County Zoning Commission heard objections to the proposed zoning and subdivision ordinance. Varying concerns cited general rules and personal interests of rule interpretations. The board did not seek approval but will consider objections and propose changes to the Bremer County Board of Supervisors for reconsideration.

Annual meeting on December 4 at Plainfield Methodist Church heard 45 stockholders present and 48 by proxy. Articles of incorporation shifted from line directors and finance committee to a seven member board to oversee decisions and new dial system. Directors named from Frederika, Tripoli and Plainfield with two at large from Plainfield. Terms staggered to allow annual two-director elections.

Waverly Man Charged With Embezzlement

Leonard H. Dettmer of Waverly was arrested on a Waterloo warrant charging embezzlement from J. C. Feed Mills in Waterloo. Dettmer, a firm salesman, allegedly collected customer payments and did not remit all funds to the company.

Liquor Floor Collapse at Tripoli Store Causes Losses

A state operated Tripoli liquor store floor collapsed while 421 cases were being unloaded. About 300 cases, valued around 12009 dollars, fell into the basement. Truck driver Norman Glidden Stewart was treated for a dislocated shoulder. manager Arnold Zander and employee Herbert Boderman suffered minor injuries. Zander reported bruises and safety concerns.

Local Post Office Extends Christmas Mailing Hours

The Local Post Office will stay open until 5 p m on Saturday December 14 and 21 to accommodate Christmas mailings, as announced by postmaster Ray H Fink. The extended lobby hours aim to assist patrons in sending holiday mail. Weekend visitors included Mr and Mrs Wayne Wilen from Berwyn Illinois staying with Herman Gebert.

Richard Ruhr Named Chief of Tripoli Fire Dept

Tripoli Volunteer Fire Department held their annual election of officers in the Tripoli Town Hall naming Richard Buhr as the new fire chief to succeed Clarence Boeckmann who did not seek reelection. Boeckmann served five years as chief and nearly ten years with the department. Elected officers include Lawrence Heideman 1st assistant chief Clarence Meier second assistant chief Robert Meyer secretary and Robert Selek treasurer. Meyer and Selek were reelected. Terms are one year and subject to approval by the Tripoli Town Council.
