Council Defeats 3-Day Notice Waiver In Sale Discussion
Miller Printz sought to waive the 3 day notice for a public meeting on a land sale. Isom Jones Gooden and Comer voted no. Dean and Armbruster voted yes. A public meeting is set for 6 p.m. Thursday Aug. 16 to discuss the sale and zoning. Chopra, the prospective buyer, has ties to Cordey Inc and Step House and plans to relocate from California.

Theater needs major work on long vacant property
Victoria Johnson of the U S Marshals Service says asbestos likely exists in the theater. A property firm says basic maintenance would require a 50 000 to 100 000 dollar remodel to renovate the historic building, which has been vacant 34 years. The theater was seized to satisfy a 2 million judgment tied to Vern Odell Crawford and his family, amid federal prison sentences for methamphetamine and cocaine distribution.

Town museum gains new Shenandoah coffee table display
Town officials received a donation of a coffee table crafted by USS Shenandoah crew members in 1992 for Capt. James F. Shanahan. The table, which bears Shanahan’s pennant, will be displayed at town hall as part of veterans remembrance. Capt. Shanahan led USS Shenandoah 1990 to 1992 and later retired in 1994.

The inaugural Trailblazer Treks series will be held Saturday September 26 at four Spotswood High School area schools. Races include a 13.1 mile half marathon starting 7:30 a.m. at South River Elementary School and a 10 mile run starting 7:30 a.m. at Montevideo Middle. a 3.1 mile 5K at 10 a.m. at MMS. and a 1 mile color run at 11 a.m. at Spotswood High.
