Local Diller Notables and Rural Route Wagons of 1901
The Fossil Record recounts 1901 events around Diller. Residents like Willems and Fanders were erecting and razing homes near Shea and west of Dede Fanders. A theft near Robert Patton’s farm burned fifty cans from his cellar. A birth to Mr and Mrs James Tate on September 30 1901 is noted and Jessie James is named as kin. Rural mail wagons were being enclosed for routes. Miller Brothers built three in their shop for Diller and Fair. Smallpox cases numbered about a dozen in the area, with Nimropar recovering. The 1901 Nebraska Methodist conference in David City voted 96 to 5 to allow women in general conference, with Aid Society women permitted to spend their own money.
