Debates on Federal Debt and Roosevelts Budget Policy
The article reviews the 1935 1936 budget outlook noting the gap between Roosevelt's debt cap of 31 834 000 000 and the growing public debt now over 28 500 000 000. It cites the Treasury report showing a six billion dollar debt rise in eighteen months and discusses recovery spending totaling about twelve billion since 1981, with a near impossible balance of the 1936 budget. It analyzes shifts in Roosevelt's fiscal stance, possible influences from Progressive Republicans, and a political note on South dominance in Congress and new leadership.
