The Diller Farmers Grain Company re elected last year’s officers and directors at their annual meeting. Home president Henry Wiemers, secretary Bert Bell, Toke Panes and Frank Roseman were named directors. Reports showed a small profit for last year.
A deal closed yesterday sees Alpha and Corolia Wiemers take over John Deere farm implements at Falls City Nebraska. The new firm Wiemer Bros will operate with Cordia Wiemers in active charge replacing the old dealer.
August Kroll has been appointed custodian for the Burlington railroad company at Helvey. He will oversee all railroad property at that location since the close of the railroad station according to the Daykin Herald.
The regular annual meeting of the Prairie Home Cemetery Association stockholders will be at the city hall on Thursday January 31 1935 at 2 p m for electing two trustees for a four year term and any other business that may come before the meeting. Chas E Waggoner secretary.
Mr C P Rhodes hosted a pleasant Thursday gathering at Dr Diehl’s home in Edmonton with Miss Clara Rhodes Mrs Anna Rhodes and John Rhodes of Beatrice. The party included a few hands of bridge and some oysters with no casualties reported.
Fairbury Journal notes county seat police report 101 business and residence doors found unlocked at night during the past year. The piece suggests many residents, including so called professors, may be absent minded and careless about security.
Mr and Mrs Hughes announce their store is preparing for opening day this Saturday with an advertisement and specials to be found on page eight.
Mrs Ray Green plans a Sunday trip to Lincoln to stay several days with her sister and meet Ray Colman for a brief visit before heading to Bryan Memorial Hospital on Monday.
Mr. Geo Eick, Diller’s oldest resident, celebrated his 94th birthday last Saturday at his home 14 miles east of Diller. He received numerous letters and phone calls during the day.
The Diller Elevator Company offers a carload of No. 1 green alfalfa bay on the track Friday and Saturday at 2360 dollars per ton.
A wool blanket disappeared between Prairie Home cemetery and Bert Bell's residence. It is being sought and should be returned to the store.
The annual meeting of the Farmers store, originally set for January 19, was postponed and rescheduled for February 2.
Dr Ellis reports finding an automobile crank on Main Street during the week. The discovery prompts no injuries or further incidents and local authorities were not notified.
Nebraska gasoline tax receipts for last year reached 8 501 845 dollars an increase of about 900 000 from 1933 figures. The state saw higher revenue driven by fuel usage and rates during the year.
Mr and Mrs Chas Wner planned a Christmas reunion with their son Lynn and his companion. After he failed to come early, they stored the turkey for a later feast. Lynn arrived with his lady. A big family dinner followed at the Waggoner home with numerous relatives listed including Messrs Waggoner Steiner Wohlfarth and Dewey among others.
Community gatherings in Diller and Fairbury cover terms of the 1935 corn hog contract. G W Arnold and W C Andreas answer questions on the program and related agricultural adjustments. A final windup at the Fairbury courthouse on February 2 at 1 30 pm features a state speaker. Contract signup days are planned for early next month.
Band activities at Diller were disrupted when Director Wood, injured in a morning crash, stayed home to discuss the incident. Muldoon led rebersails in the afternoon and evening. A mid winter concert is set for February 20 featuring both junior and senior bands and is free. Election of officers announced: Directors Ingaisbe and Wood. President W. A. Schindler. Alpha Wiemers showed yesterday a one-cent check from the Union Stock Yards Company of Omaha to correct an overcharge on yardage expense. He may keep it as a souvenir since it costs three cents to cash a foreign check, yet the cent balances the account.
Mrs. W N Sparks is ill and Miss Sutton of Steele City is caring for her. The notice appears in the local sick list.
Isabel Irene Madden Vieths died January 20 at age 5 months with fortitude in illness. Funeral from her home at 2 PM and Congregational church at 2:30 led by Rev. Drew. interment Prairie Home cemetery. She was born August 20 1862 near Donahoe Iowa and married Frank A Madden February 17 1886, later moving to Diller. Survived by daughters Hazel and Hilda, son Arthur, and several Madden and Fouts relatives.
Smallpox struck five Bruning farm homes last week prompting action by Thurston county authorities led by Dr. Rudolph Decker and Sheriff Billy Cofendaffer. Dr. H W Saylor vaccinated over 300 residents and plans to reach 350. dances and movie events were halted as a precaution while high school games were postponed and church services canceled.
Storms northward reached Worthington Minnesota where June Smallwood staying with Mr and Mrs Chas Waggoner received a message Wednesday evening warning of severely bad roads due to snow and ice and a mercury reading 30 below.
Jefferson County Nebraska officials discuss upgrading the PWF highway from the Gage county line west through Diller to Fairbury with Federal and state aid. A 13.5 mile route to connect with state highway 15 is proposed, while county signatories back limited county funding and FERA labor.
Nebraska farmers can obtain weekly feed bulletins from the agricultural drought relief service in Lincoln. W. W. Derrick of the College of Agriculture says a large amount of Nebraska grown feeds remains available for stockmen and Jefferson County farmers can request copies by writing Derrick.
Fairbury issued 310 dog licenses in 1984. The report notes 617 percent in feces collected and 125 dogs euthanized due to lack of friends.
The Nebraska representative serves on the Prairie States Refinancing of Farm Mortgages committee. He supports government financed refinancing at 1 percent interest and 1 percent principal yearly. A Washington monetary conference urged remonetization of silver and federal currency issuance.
