Beatrice Nebraska residents circulate petitions to call a special election over Sunday theatre closings the only Nebraska town over 3 000 with such a ban. The issue likely awaits legalization of shows as Sunday entertainment demand grows.
A Cassell oil truck being unloaded at supply tanks in Steeler City caught fire when a bystander struck a match. The unloading deck back tires and tank were destroyed. a nearby driver moved the truck away to prevent more damage. Fairbury fire department arrived after the blaze was out.
Representative John W. Porter of Albion proposes a Nebraska bill to prohibit sale of any malt, brewed vinous or distilled beverage with less than 3.2 percent alcohol. Home brew would be exempt, as it is said to have a stronger kick.
Nebraska authorities grant 20000 cattle for federal purchase. Jefferson county farmers with distressed animals are asked to list them with the agricultural agent immediately. The additional purchase must be concluded January 26, prompting urgent action.
Rev. Father Flanagan of the Boys Home near Omaha attributed 90 percent of bad citizenship and criminality to poor home training in a talk over WOW last Sunday. He charged that parents neglecting children contribute to the break down of law and order.
Mrs. R L Cochran asserts the executive mansion has always been dry and plans to keep it that way. No liquor beer or light wines will be served at state functions, reflecting a dry policy.
In Fairbury three young men Jessé Colman Ernest Grabber and Henry Fenton pleaded guilty to breaking and entering John Pulec s blacksmith shop and garage and taking an electric drill. They were sentenced Tuesday to four months in the county jail.

A petition to make the Gage county line to Fairbury highway an FERA project gathered about 300 signatures from Diller residents and locals. The Fairbury Chamber of Commerce backs the plan and the Diller Commercial Club has been notified. Commissioner Patterson seeks broader consensus and state FERA approval before consent.
Mrs F L Park wife of the Fairbury mayor was badly injured when their car skidded on frosty brick pavement a half mile south of the Nebraska penitentiary. She suffered fractures of both bones in the left leg below the knee and a deep forehead laceration. Mrs Boals also sustained multiple cuts bruises and a wrenched back. Mayor Parks and City Engineer Boals were uninjured and the party was en route to Lincoln for a Nebraska League of Municipalities meeting.
The agricultural office announces fodder soybean molasses mixture and cotton seed cake are available to farmers. Purchases are at the FERA commissary located at the county agent's office in the courthouse.
