Batavia Sesquicentennial Parade Seeks Local Floats

The Batavia Sesquicentennial Parade Committee led by Russell P Speidel and Calvin Lewis invites area organizations to enter floats for the July 25 parade in Clermont County. Entries due by June 1 with sketches by June 15. themes cover 1814 to 1920 eras. trophies include Grand Marshal and Batavia 150 Inc. awards.

Construction Begins On New CG&E Building In Batavia

Construction has started on The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company office at Fourth and Spring Streets Batavia. The $350000 project, expected to finish early next year, features 30 foot deep concrete piers by McKinney Drilling and a 165 by 264 foot site with an auditorium for 150, a drive in pay window, parking lot and night depository serving Clermont County operations.

Batavians Capture Two Top Honors At State Track Meet

Batavia's track team led Columbus events with Lynn Beck setting an Ohio mark in the high jump of 6-4 and Don Ogletree posting a district 440 record of 51.4 seconds. Beck and Ogletree earned invitations to a Mansfield meet on June 6 as coach Bob Clausson praised the squad's 100 percent effort and team depth.

Batavia Lawyer Ely Elected Fellow in National Trial Group

Batavia attorney Forrest E. Ely, 63, becomes the first lawyer from a city under 100,000 to be named a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Installed Aug 9 at the Waldorf Astoria, Ely has 37 years in practice, served as Clermont County prosecutor 1928-32, and was an assistant Ohio attorney general 1932-41 before joining his firm Ely Moore and Tilbury.

Appropriation Suits Filed Over Union Township Sewer System

Prosecutor Ralph A. Hill filed appropriation suits against four new on road easements for the $3.1 million Union Township sewer project. Owners named were Mariam Bolger Gilliland, Anna V. Clark, Loraine Legg, and Dayton D. Legg. Over 200 other property owners granted easements. court action should not delay the project. Next week the county will negotiate off road easements as title work continues.

Father Killed by Son in New Richmond Shooting

Gary Taylor, 15, is charged after a rifle shot killed his father William T. Taylor, 44, during an upstairs bedroom dispute at 215 Quarry St New Richmond. The incident witnessed by brother Duane led to Gary being released pending a possible grand jury action after diagnostic center tests. Funeral services set for May 28 at Lew F White Memorial.

Batavia native Robert Stockmeier Jr. was among 60 seniors earning bachelor degrees at Evangel College during the May commencement. He received a Bachelor of Arts with a history major and is a Batavia High School graduate.

Batavia Fifth Grade Song Honors Sesquicentennial

Batavia fifth graders under Mrs. Carol Teague and music teacher Mrs. Wilma Marugg wrote a Sesquicentennial song. The lyrics describe a town celebration with parades, dancing on Main Street, antique sales, bells, and a call for Batavia to open its doors for a 150 year milestone.
